AHMEDABAD: Four workers died at a cold storage facility at Rakhial village of Dehgam taluka in Gandhinagar district on Friday afternoon, when an ammonia cylinder exploded.
The deceased were identified as Rakesh Yogendra Kumar (24), his brother Rupesh Yogendra Kumar (22), Raju Chauhan (21) and Damodar Shahu (23), all of whom were from Uttar Pradesh. Prima facie, it appears that the incident occurred when the four were doing some welding at the plant while gas had started leaking from the cylinder. The cylinder then exploded.
The blast was so intense that debris from the plant was later found 300 metres away from the factory. Locals called the emergency services but all four had already died by the time the ambulance arrived, said a 108 EMRI emergency services official.
The bodies of the victims suggested they died from or injuries suffered after the roof and wall of the factory collapsed.
