Coimbatore: Minister for municipal administration S P Velumani on Saturday inaugurated an electricity sub-station at Thondamuthur.

The electricity board had spent Rs 6crore to set up the station, the minister said. “Thondamuthur is getting electricity from the Madampatti sub-station and Devarayapuram sub-station. Since the demand for power has increased in Madampatti and Devarayapuram sub-stations, people in Thondamuthur areas were suffering due to lack of adequate power. The new station will reduce transmission losses,” he said.

The station will benefit about 24,500 people residing at Thondamuthur, Dhaliyur and surrounding areas. “From the new sub-station, electricity can be supplied to Kembanur, Muthipalayam, Kulathupalayam, Theenampalayam, Puthupalayam, Kalikkanaickenpalayam, Poochiyur and Sundapalayam villages. The work was completed within a year. It will check transmission loss of 31.56lakh units and save the electricity board Rs 1.95crore per year,” Velumani said.

The minister later participated in the bhoomi puja to construct a bridge on the Thondamuthur-Madampatti Road. He also inaugurated a road at the ninth ward of Thenkarai town panchayat that was constructed at a cost of Rs 55lakh.
