Gold worth Rs 12 lakh looted from retired sub-inspector's house

CHENNAI: Unidentified men decamped with valuables, including 50 sovereigns of gold worth 12 lakh, from a retired sub-inspector's house at Madhavaram.
The incident came to light on Thursday, when the family returned from Kerala. Police said, Sarala, a retired sub-inspector, lived with husband Vijayan at the house. "The couple had gone to attend a wedding in Kerala a week ago. They returned on Thursday morning to find the car parked in front of the house unlocked and the main door of the house open. As much as 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 10,000 in cash and silver ornaments were reported missing," said a police officer. A case was registered. Police are skimming through the CCTV camera footage from the locality to trace the suspects.
