LUCKNOW: Stung by the arrest of personal secretaries of three UP ministers on charge of corruption, the government is taking no chances against any further embarrassment. On Friday, CM Yogi Adityanath issued a strict warning to ministers of state against involving family members with ministry or other official work.
About two weeks after the arrest of the personal secretaries, the CM said that he has been receiving several complaints against ministers who had brought in family members into their ministries and said that the practice should stop immediately.
“The CM did not name any specific minister but said that he had been receiving several complaints. The warning was meant for everyone. He said that no family member or friend should be involved in any ministerial work,” said a minister.
Sources said that in a meeting before the arrest of the three secretaries after a sting operation by a news channel showed them ready to accept favours for getting work done, the CM had similarly warned independent ministers. “The CM had then said that he had information about involvement of family members in ministerial work and in some cases, working as personal secretaries and warned us to be careful. A few days later the sting against the three secretaries came to light. In Friday’s meeting, he added that despite this incident, he was continuing to receive complaints,” said another minister.
The CM directed the ministers to spend more time in their constituencies and districts of which they were in charge. With Lok Sabha elections months away, the government is focussing on publicity of its schemes and ministers have been told to connect with constituents.
