The Capital may witness a rainy couple of days with the Meteorological Department on Friday predicting rainfall and strong winds between January 20-22.
Weather-prediction models and satellite information has indicated that two western disturbances in quick succession may will affect northwest India, including Delhi, early next week, said the Met Department.
“The first western disturbance will be quite intense and may cause severe weather across northwest India between January 19 and 22, with peak intensity on January 21,” said the weatherman.
The Met Department has forecast widespread rainfall with gusty winds upto 25-30 kmph blowing over the plains, especially Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh between January 20-22.
Strong winds
“Forecast for Delhi/NCR is generally cloudy conditions with light to moderate rainfall at most places and isolated thunderstorm activity accompanied with strong surface winds most likely during January 21 and 22,” the Met Department said.
The second western disturbance of lesser intensity is likely to affect western Himalayan region and the plains of northwest India between January 24 and 26.
Due to the influence of these western disturbances, night temperatures are expected to increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next four days and due to rainfall, strong winds and cloudy weather, maximum temperatures may fall by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius from January 21 onwards.
The weatherman has forecast moderate fog on Saturday with possibility of haze and smog. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 22 and 4 degrees Celsius respectively.
