We come to the list and would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey. I must also point out that absolutely no scientific methods are used here, just a few dozen random answers. However, there was enough approval to make this list.
We would also like to point out some elements that have not been included in the list of household items, either because they were not household items that were too dark or the consensus was insufficient:
- Government
- Salad spinner
- Ice maker
- Cable TV
- Cap Snaffled
- Corn skewers
Now that this is no longer possible, we come to the list of 18 household items that most people have that they do not really need. Interestingly enough, most of the answers focused on the kitchen.
18 household items that you do not really need:
- Microwave Oven: This was the most talked about point in the discussion. I have not had a microwave for nearly 10 years. My food tastes better and it is healthier.
- Dishwasher: This was the second highest agreed point. I bought a house with a broken dishwasher. I recently replaced it for the future resale of house. However, I have to say that it saves me time and consumes much less water than washing the dishes by hand.
- Waste Press: What’s the point? I only use my foot. I never owned one of these devices.
- Electric mixer: I thought they made spoons for it? I have never owned an electric mixer. I could spot the point if you bake a lot.
- Waste Disposal: My house came with me, and it works. I use it, but soon I plan more composting for my garden.
- Sandwich Maker: You know, one of those electric grills for making grilled cheese sandwiches. I have none. I only use a pan.
- Extra dishes: My mother had the normal dishes and the “good dishes”. We never used the good dishes.
- Napkin Rings: Silly. Just stupid. Do not own one. Never will.
- Garlic Press: I bought one from a two-for-one kitchen appliance. I used it twice, along with the potato masher.
- Paper towels: I am guilty.
- Plastic bags: Okay, I’m trying to get used to wearing these reusable shopping bags. I have to put it on my list for the New Year resolution. Waiting, I do not make resolutions.
- Television: Most respondents said that “additional” televisions would not be needed. We do not want to give up television completely. I’ve probably spent more of my life watching TV than watching TV. I currently own one, but it is not a big screen TV.
- Lawn Mower: Stop growing lawns and plant gardens instead. I take a bit of my lawn every year.
- Snow blower: This is especially useful if you live in Texas, Florida or California.
- Tumble Dryer: I have one. One of my goals for 2015 was drying my clothes. I decided that would not happen to a child.
- Clothes in excess: Some minimalists have only one or two pieces of clothing. I think five clothes are more reasonable. I admit to have a little more. I think less, but higher quality is best.
- More than a car: For years I only owned one car. I drive a VW Golf TDI. It gets 50mpg. Recently, I bought a small old pickup that I could use for landscaping, gardening and taking along landfills. Maybe I’m not a real minimalist. I am not ashamed. I just live.
- A big house: I agree. I think we should all live in shoeboxes. Okay, little houses.
What do not you need?
This list of 18 household items that most people do not really need was the first reader survey by Pikroll.com . We hope to be able to conduct further reader surveys in the future. It was fun, engaging and helping build the community.
