Top JD(S) leaders will attend the rally of Opposition parties organised by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) at Kolkata on Saturday.
JD(S) national president and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy have left for Kolkata to attend the rally. The party’s secretary general Danish Ali will also take part.
Meanwhile, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has written to West Bengal Chief Minister and AITC supremo Mamata Banerjee extending support to the rally. Ms. Banerjee had attended the oath-taking ceremony of Mr. Kumaraswamy here in May 2018 to show solidarity for the coming together of regional parties against the BJP-led NDA government.
“In the changed political situation, even the Congress has extended supported to the rally and the JD(S), as a coalition partner in the government and a regional party to reckon with in south India, is returning the gesture. The other reason is making the JD(S) presence felt at the rally,” said a senior party leader.
It is learnt that Congress leader in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjuna Kharge too would attend the rally.
