Ujjain: Economic Offenses Wing, Ujjain on Friday raided Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) depot to investigate alleged corruption in water tank purchase during Simhastha Fair-2016. The PHE had purchased more than 500 water tanks with 2000 litres capacity for uninterrupted water supply arrangements in Simhastha area during Simhastha Fair 2016. Later, 135 more water tanks were purchased. These water tanks were purchased at a cost of Rs 14,000 per tank.
Congress leaders had alleged scam in purchasing tanks soon after Simhastha Fair. The then Zila Panchayat president Mahesh Parmar and advocate Sonal Trivedi had registered complaint with Economic Offenses Wing, Bhopal on the alleged scam. During investigation, the EOW team found dubious role of RK Shrivastava and Mukesh Garg as both had direct involvement in purchasing the water tanks. Both the officers did not submit documents asked by the EOW team. EOW team asserted that case will be registered against the accused under Section 409 and 420 of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
