This picture appears to capture a seal laughing riotously while clutching its belly.

While lounging in shallow sea water, this seal seems to have thought of a funny joke that made him crack up.

German photographer, Ingo Gerlach, found the chuckling grey seal on a German island, Helgoland, in the south of the North Sea.

Helgoland is known for its grey and common seals. Ingo, 65, has been a wildlife photographer for 40 years.

He said: 'I have seen this before but I think the seal is just tired, not laughing'.
