MUMBAI: A 45-year-old businessman from Borivli was shocked to receive a video clip on WhatsApp showing his son, a class X student, being repeatedly abused and slapped by three schoolmates on January 12. The man has filed a case against the alleged attackers at MHB Colony police station.
Considering the callow age of the students, all 15-year-olds, the police filed a non-cognizable offence against the boys and and informed their parents about their action. The boy was beaten up as he had allegedly bullied the other children in school in front of other classmates.
The police said that this had led to anger among the other boys who then decided to teach their schoolmate a lesson. "Last Saturday, they cornered him outside the school campus and took him behind a bus where they took turns to abuse and slap him," said a police officer. "The video was recorded by one students and it was sent to the boy's father who asked us take action against the boys," said the officer.
The complainant told TOI that he had learnt about the incident from his son. "Whatever happened was not right. I did not want to take action against the boys, but had I not done so, they would've got a wrong signal. I lodged a complaint so that they will know the seriousness of this matter."
The police called the three boys with their parents and informed them about their children's act. "Names of three students were mentioned in the case. The boys were allowed to go after counselling," said senior inspector of MHB Colony police station, Pandit Thakare.
The school principal said the incident happened outside the school premise, but added that the school had taken the required disciplinary action. The principal did not disclose what action had been taken.
