SIT asked to part with case papers immediately

The NIA court has directed the police to shift J. Srinivasa Rao, accused in the attack on YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, to the Rajahmundry Cental Prison.

After a seven-day police custody, the NIA authorities on Friday produced Rao in the court here, which extended his remand till January 25.

Rao’s advocates said there was no security to their client in Vijayawada jail, and sought additional security. Admitting their plea, the court directed the police to shift the accused to the Rajahmundry Central Prison, with security.

Responding to the memo filed by the NIA seeking the cooperation of Special Investigation Team, which investigated the case earlier, the court directed the SIT officials to hand over the documents to the NIA team immediately. Rao reportedly said that the jail authorities took a 22-page book written by him on the reasons for the attack, and urged the court to give him permission to speak to the public. Meanwhile speaking to media persons, defence counsel M. Jayakar said the NIA police did not follow the instructions of the court and had questioned Rao for over two days. He urged the court to direct the NIA to submit the details such as where his client was taken to and how he was grilled without his advocates.
