Two police officers shot attending domestic dispute
A male police officer was shot in the face and a female officer was shot in the neck after they attended a domestic dispute in north-eastern NSW that ended with the death of an elderly man.
The male sergeant and his female senior constable colleague were called to a property on Church Street in Glen Innes shortly before 10pm on Friday.
Police say the officers were shot about an hour later.
Both were airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital in a stable condition, with the female officer said to be serious.
Police said a third officer, a female probationary constable, was not injured.
Specialist officers who were called to the dispute set up a perimeter around the property. They found the body of a man, 74, at the home shortly before midnight.
A woman, 59, was found nearby with minor injuries.
Police say they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident. The home is being scoured by forensic specialists.
A critical incident investigation team from the region will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
That probe will be overseen by the police's professional standards command.
In a separate incident overnight, a man was arrested after his wife, 31, was shot in the face in the state's south.
Police say the woman was on a property at Pretty Pine, north of Deniliquin, with five other people when she sustained a gun-shot wound to the head shortly after midnight.
She was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.
The woman's husband, 32, is helping police with their enquiries. He has not been charged.
Four other witnesses, two men and two women, are also speaking to police.
Specialist police will investigate whether the shooting was accidental.
