MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a pan-country single window system for film permissions and also that his government began the process of amending the cinematography act, 1952 to make piracy a stricter offence.

Modi was in Mumbai on Saturday to inaugurate the first-ever National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) at Peddar road said that the government will also support if anyone from the film industry wants to develop a communication and entertainment university in the country.

"The film industry of this country has a huge potential to bring out social changes and has a very important role to play in the establishment of a 'New India. I know that piracy is a very big problem faced by the industry. We are working towards adding stricter punishment for piracy," said Modi, while addressing an auditorium full of people from the film industry.

"I met a few people from the industry a few days ago and one of the issue that they brought to my notice was the difficulty in getting filming permissions. We have started the work of creating an online portal through which all the permissions will be issued in a time-bound manner," said Modi, earlier this month several directors, actors had a meeting with Modi in Delhi.

Modi also said that his government has done away with 1400-odd laws that were irrelevant under the ease of doing business policy and asked the audience to come up with more laws that are still prevalent and make no sense in today's day and age and they will work towards discarding those too.

"Our film industry has such an impact, that Baahubali shares international fan base on the lines of Batman. There is a need to train our youth in several techinical skills to match up to the global requirement in the film industry and for which a Communications and Entertainment university should be established,"said Modi, he also said that if private individuals from the film industry want to come ahead, the government will support them.

Modi also said that the government will also consider a Davos Economic Forum like global film and entertainment summit in the country.

As part of this summit the film industry can be looked at from the financial angle and different technologies, new markets, can be talked about and India can lead the world in that aspect. "The summit should be grand and global on the lines of Davos, I do not believe in doing anything small," said Modi.

Modi said that the film industry also aids tourism through which several other jobs can be created."Even a 'chaiwala' earns through the same tourism," said Modi.

He urged the film industry to reach out to him with their suggestions."If a government claims of doing everything on its own, it is fooling people and that one needs 'sabka saath'for 'sabka vikas',"he said.
