Women should aim to develop leadership skills and hold responsible positions, according to N.J. Kumaresh, Commissioner of GST and Central Excise (Audit).
Speaking at the Future India programme organised by The Hindu along with KPR IAS Academy here on Friday for students of Nirmala College for Women, Mr. Kumaresh said participation of women in the overall development of the country should improve. Students can excel in any field they choose with their complete involvement in the work.
Mr. Kumaresh added that examinations for Indian Administrative Services test one’s individuality and sincerity.
Combination of good reading habits, knowledge of current affairs, and an open mind will help the candidates achieve success in these exams. Interest in social service is a criteria for taking up IAS exams. Compared to the northern States, awareness about these exams among candidates in the southern States is low.
They should improve the habit of reading newspapers and update their knowledge. Government jobs will give them an opportunity to serve the country.

The Future India programmes are organised for college students to create more IAS officers from Coimbatore region. It will empower students in 12 colleges with knowledge and required support. Interactive sessions are also organised with experts.
