35-year-old Panjab University staffer hangs self

CHANDIGARH: A 35-year-old man, who is working in PU allegedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances by hanging himself at the university accommodation on Friday morning. Sector 11 police registered a case and started investigation into the matter. No suicide note has been recovered from the crime scene.
The deceased has been identified as Amarjit Kumar, resident of PU, Sector 14. Police said that they received a call from Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16 that one person has been brought dead at the hospital around 8.45 am. After receiving the information, cops reached the hospital. Neeru, wife of the deceased told cops that she had gone to her parents’ house in Sector 24 and returned at 12 midnight. She added that at around 6 am she found Amarjeet hanging with an iron pipe in the washroom of their accommodation in PU. She soon raised an alarm and with the help of others, Amarjeet was taken to GMSH-16, where doctors declared him brought dead. Cops were informed about the incident.
Police conducted autopsy and handed over the body to his family. Sector 11 police said they have registered a case under the CrPC 174 and initiated the inquest proceedings in the case. Cops have been verifying the facts and inspected the crime scene. They said exact cause of death would only be ascertained only after the autopsy report. The accused was working as a class-3 employee in PU and is survived by two children and wife.
