JIND: Kandela village of Jind was the bypoll hotspot on Friday, with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his predecessor Bhupinder Singh Hooda reaching there to campaign for their party candidates.
Kandela khap is a prominent khap of the state and spans over more than 20 villages of the Jind constituency. The khap villages have more than 40,000 votes in the constituency, which is all set for a four-cornered contest on January 28.
Khattar began his campaign at Kandela with a round of “Chai Pe Charcha” for around 30 minutes with khap chief Tek Ram Kandela, who joined BJP recently but is upset over not getting the party ticket for Jind bypoll. Even as the CM tried to pacify him, Kandela said he would consider his decision and let him know after discussing it with his supporters.
Earlier, Congress candidate Randeep Singh Surjewala too started his campaigning from the same village. JJP leader and Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala also began campaigning for his brother and party candidate Digvijay from Kandela. Every party leader of any standing has approached Tek Ram for support but he has kept his cards close to the chest. This is the first time that the CM has visited the constituency after the nominations were filed.
