HYDERABAD: Sticking to his stand that he would not take oath before protem speaker Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of All Indian Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) because he was "anti-Hindu", T Raja Singh, the lone BJP MLA in the Telangana assembly, stayed away from the proceedings on Thursday when new legislators were sworn in.
"The whole world knows the pro-tem speaker belongs to that party (AIMIM) whose ideology is against Hindus. The party does not respect Hindu sentiments and culture and party leaders talk about eliminating Hindus. All the party leaders do not say 'Bharati Mata Ki Jai' or sing 'Vande Mataram'. If they are ready to say Bharat Mata Ki Jai and sing Vande Mataram, I am ready to take oath before the pro-tem speaker now itself," Raja Singh told TOI on Thursday, adding that he would get himself sworn in before the newly-elected speaker "in a day or two" in his chamber.
As against the usual practice of making the seniormost legislator the pro-tem speaker, TRS chief and CM K Chandrasekhar Rao this time gave the chance to the MIM legislator. Mumtaz took oath as pro-tem speaker on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan .
