Nagpur: Rana Pratap Nagar police on Thursday rushed to make amends for their questionable intervention in a property dispute at Bhange Vihar, Bhamti, on Thursday. The cops have now registered offences of dacoity and other crimes against persons they seemed to have been supporting earlier. The change came about following assurance of strict action by city police chief BK Upadhyay after the controversial police role was highlighted to him.
Police have now registered offences of dacoity, criminal trespass, threatening, criminal conspiracy and other charges against Pankaj Nigot, Milind Deshmukh, and others for their alleged involvement in using a bulldozer to pull down portions of wall compound of Mahendra Bhange, who is the complainant in the case. The accused also stole CCTV camera, recording machine, name plate attached to the gate and other materials. The accused persons also tried to forcefully evict the Bhanges.
Nigot and Deshmukh had apparently been supported by several RP Nagar police personnel during the demolition. They had vacated the rooms occupied by the Bhanges, shifting out their belongings. Even as this illegal activity was underway, CP Upadhyay was alerted about the controversial role of police in helping one party dispossess the other even though the matter was sub-judice.
Police said that Nigot and Deshmukh had all relevant documents, and even the court had rejected the plea of the Bhanges, following which they had earlier helped the persons now named as accused.
