Mysuru: Nearly 75 % of the registered cases of duplication in voter names in the city have been reported in the Narasimharaja (NR) assembly constituency, revealed Mysuru deputy commissioner Abhiram G Sankar on Monday. “Of the 55 cases of duplications found in the electoral roll in the city, 41 are from NR constituency,” said Sankar, who released the updated list of electoral roll as the district prepares for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled later this year.
Sankar said that the district administration had distributed Election Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to all registered voters across the district but the process of photo electoral roll is still under way. “We are in the process of getting rid of double entries on the roll,” said the DC.
Sankar said that, acting on a complaint from a party about duplication of addresses, he had personally visited these homes only to find that the residential address provided by two or three families were the same. “We received six complaints about possible duplication of addresses, and on initiating a verification process, found the complaints to be true,” he added.
DC said that the duplication of addresses was a result of some faulty survey numbers issued by town planners. “It has to be rectified by them. As far as the electoral roll is concerned, we will go by the same residential address,” Sankar said.
More than 24L voters in district
The revision of electoral roll in the district commenced in October 2018, and ended on January 16, 2019. It has now been revealed that the entire district has 24,65,102 voters, who are eligible to exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha polls.
While the draft list released in October had 24,80,709 names, revision of the roll in the ensuing months saw the number decrease by 15,607 names. Sankar said that more names had been taken off the roll than had been added. “Deletion of names from the roll has been long overdue. In the past three years, as many as 15,336 people who were on the electoral rolls have passed away, but their names remained on the list. Now they have been taken out, ” Sankar said.
Of the 80,046 applications that the district administration received for addition, deletion and change of constituencies, the officials had disposed of 77,219, the DC said. “Revision of electoral roll will continue, and voters can visit either visit nearest revenue office or update online. “Please get your names verified on the roll to avoid last-minute problems,” he said.
