Recently, on a visit to the Secretariat, this reporter was hailed by a couple of young women who introduced as workers from a private fitness clinic and invited the scribe for a free check-up as he was “a little obese”.
Chennai:
When this was brought to the notice of a few senior reporters, the reporter came to know that it is not unusual to find people loitering around the premises, trying to sell their goods and services, while reporters are asked a number of questions every time they try to enter the Secretariat.

This reporter did not immediately respond because he was puzzled about what hit him harder — being pointed out that he was “a little obese” by strangers when he is out on work or that such health enthusiasts could enter and function at one of the most restricted-entry buildings in the state. There are policemen at the entrance of the Secretariat who thoroughly check the visitors and enquire the reason for their visit and the person they intended to meet. Despite that, it was a wonder how these employees of the fitness clinic — who are often found trying to bait people under an umbrella outside the premises — not only gained entry, but also went around distributing pamphlets.
