GURUGRAM: A rape accused out on bail befriended his live-in partner again, took her on a long drive and allegedly shot her dead near Khushbu Chowk on Faridabad Road in the early hours of Friday. The crime took place a day ahead of the hearing in the 2017 rape case that was filed by the 23-year-old woman against him.

Police said Sandeep Adhana, a resident of Faridabad’s Tigaon village, fired five rounds at the woman. A murder case has been registered at DLF-III police station against Sandeep and one of his friends who was accompanying the couple in the car. Both are currently on the run.

A friend of the woman who had also come for the long drive later informed cops, who rushed to the spot and took the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

According to police, Sandeep and the woman — a club bouncer and a bar dancer, respectively — were in a live-in relationship from the middle of 2016 till she filed a rape complaint against him at women’s police station, Sector 51, in November 2017. Days later, he was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

In April last year, Sandeep had patched up his relationship with the woman soon after coming out on bail on the pretext of tying the knot with her, police said. However, they had been living separately. The woman, originally from Karnal, was staying with her sister in a rented house in DLF-III.

“On Thursday night, he had called the woman and her friend to meet him outside a club on MG Road. After spending some time with them, Sandeep dropped them home. But early on Friday morning, Sandeep came back, this time with his friend, and asked the two woman to join them for tea,” a police official said.

After having tea, the four went for a long drive in Sandeep’s car. “However, Sandeep suddenly stopped his car near Khushbu Chowk and all of us stepped out. Without giving my friend time to react, Sandeep whiffed out his gun and fired at her. They threatened me too with dire consequences before driving away in the white colour car,” the woman’s friend said in her complaint. “It was pre-planned murder,” she claimed.

A senior police official said that the hearing of the rape case is on Saturday. “Her family members were seeking a compromise only, but Sandeep killed the woman. She is survived by a nine-month-old baby boy, probably fathered by Sandeep,” he said. Cops said the woman sustained bullet wounds to her chest, thigh, hand and stomach, had died on spot. “The murder was out of anger and an act of revenge,” an official said.
