VELLORE: More than 50 villagers bid teary farewell to a 13-year-old bull – Villain -- that died on Friday after suffering injuries in a bull race called manju virattu at Munjurpattu on Thursday.
The bull belonged to Palkar (milkman) Mani, 55, of G R Palayam in Vellore. He bought the bull a decade ago and called it Villain, (inspired by the title of Ajith-starrer "Villain" movie) .

The bull had been actively participating in bull races held in the area for the past 10 years. It was also taken to Munjurpattu bull race organised by the villagers on Thursday.

Villain, which was among the 60 bulls that were set in a wooden barricaded track as part of the game, suddenly got terrified and started charging on the tamers who tried to pounce on the animal.

The panicked bull which tried to find a way out by running on the opposite side of the track made a head–on collision with another bull charging towards it. The left side horn of Villain was broken.

Mani told TOI: “I had bought the bull from a local market when it was just two years old and was raising it as one of my sons. Soon after the unexpected accident in the race , we immediately rushed Villain to a veterinary hospital and was given treatment under the supervision of a retired government veterinary doctor .”

“Villain succumbed to the injuries around 3.30am on Friday. As my bull had a big fan crowd in the surrounding village, we erected two digital banners at the entrance of the village to announce his death. We buried it in my farmland,” he added.
