Former BJP MP Uday Singh, who represented the Purnia Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar twice, resigned from the party on Friday, alleging that it has surrendered before Janata Dal (United) leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Throwing enough hints that he may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as a Mahagathbandhan candidate, Mr. Singh heaped praise on Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
In his five-page resignation letter to party president Amit Shah, Mr. Singh said that “committed BJP workers were appalled over the way the party agreed overnight to share power with Nitish Kumar in Bihar while forgetting all their bitter experiences with him in the past”.
“The party which had won just two seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls was given 17 seats for the upcoming elections… it has surprised just not me but most BJP leaders of the State,” he added.
Mr. Singh, whose elder brother N.K. Singh is Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission, had lost his seat in 2014 to Janata Dal (United) candidate Santosh Kushwaha by a margin of over one lakh votes. His mother Madhuri Singh too had represented the Purnia Lok Sabha seat twice.
