Protest at Anna University

Students pursuing engineering courses at Anna University in Chennai protested against the recent rules that allows them to re-appear for failed exam only after a year.

Anna University has done away with the system of arrears from the current academic year. Instead, students would have to re-register and reappear for exams they had not passed in a semester, when the subject is offered next.

The ninth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 began in Gandhinagar. Around 25 industrial and business sectors are showcasing their products at the event. The trade show will continue till January 22.

India skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl against Australia in the third and final one day international (ODI) of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) here on Friday. 

India made three changes in their playing eleven as all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who makes his ODI debut, replaces Mohammed Siraj while Kedhar Jadhav and Yuzvendra Chahal comes in for Ambati Rayudu and Kuldeep Yadav respectively. 

Meanwhile, Billy Stanlake, Adam Zampa replace Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Lyon in the Aussie team. 

The series is currently tied at 1-1.

Roger Federer ensured his 100th Australian Open match was over quickly, and raised his racket to acknowledge the Rod Laver Arena crowd.

The six-time champion conceded only three points on his first serve in a 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 win over 21-year-old American Taylor Fritz, who was bidding to reach the fourth round at a major for the first time.

Federer is into the Round of 16 at a Grand Slam event for the 63rd time.

“I think I wanted to get out of the blocks quickly. I knew of the threat of Taylor,” Federer said. “I think I had extra focus today.”

The second China-Germany High Level Financial dialogue is being held in Beijing on Friday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

The dialogue will be co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, spokesperson Hua Chunying said.
