The residents of Green Domain Layout in Whitefield, who were effectively locked up as the only access road to the layout caved in during the work on laying the foundation for an apartment complex on Wednesday, got temporary relief on Thursday.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike officials opened up the compound of an empty plot of land to provide access to the adjoining road. The civic body has now promised to take up reconstruction of the road and initiate action against the apartment builder for the deterioration of the road.
“The construction should stop immediately. No action has been taken till now. The KIADB is silent on this matter. Right now, we have created an alternative road to aid the residents,” said Shwetha Vijaykumar, the local councillor.
Since the cave-in, residents’ access to basic necessities such as drinking water, milk, and groceries was almost cut off, and schoolchildren had to walk till the main road to access their school transport or parents had to drop them to school. “On Thursday morning, there was heavy traffic on the main road as school buses piled up. The schoolchildren now have to walk all the way or parents have to alter their schedule to drop and pick them up from school,” said a local resident.
