JAIPUR: In its endeavour to find fault with the Congress-led regime before it, the previous BJP government had lost its way, said Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh in his address to the first session of the new state assembly on Thursday.

While targeting the previous Vasundhara Raje government on rising debt, the governor said the economic growth rate had dropped during the BJP government's term.

"The total debt and liabilities on the state in 2013-14 was Rs 1.29 lakh crore. This is estimated to be Rs 3.08 lakh crore in 2018-19 due to financial mismanagement and the short-sight of the former government," he said. Singh said the fiscal deficit was over three per cent during the tenure of the former government.

The customary address of the governor, during which the government of the day lays out its agenda, was marred by disruptions by Rashtriya Loktantrik Party MLA Hanuman Beniwal. The priority of the new Congress government in the state will be skill development and employment generation, he said, assuring that all vacancies in the government departments would be filled at the earliest.
