NEW DELHI: AAP on Friday announced that it will not have any alliance with Congress during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. AAP will contest alone in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. Speculation of AAP-Congress alliance was going on for over six months.
Recently, Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh remarked that AAP has poor organizational strength in Punjab and Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit ruled out an alliance with AAP. "We have been opposed to Congress ideologies since beginning. Due to the dictatorship of BJP, the need of an alliance of opposition parties has been felt to defeat BJP. Leaders of several like-minded parties pressed on the need of an alliance with Congress despite political differences," said AAP Delhi convenor Gopal Rai.
He said that for the sake of the country, "AAP was ready to drink the poison of Congress."
"The remarks of two Congress leaders show that for Congress their arrogance is bigger than the national interest. In the wake of all this we have decided that we will not have an alliance in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana," Rai said.
An exchange on twitter between AAP and Congress leaders triggered talks of alliance last year and speculations continued over it till now. Leaders in both AAP and Congress were divided over entering into an alliance before polls.
