Colombia Pins Police Bombing on Marxist Rebels
Authorities say attacker was with insurgency ELN, plan to charge commanders they say operate in Venezuela
BOGOTÁ, Colombia—The Colombian government on Friday accused a Marxist rebel group of planning a car bombing that killed 21 and said it would press charges against guerrilla commanders believed to operate from neighboring Venezuela.
The rebels of the National Liberation Army, or ELN, were the “intellectual authors” behind the attack Thursday morning at the General Santander National Police Academy, where 900 cadets study, said Defense Minister Guillermo Botero at a news conference flanked by government officials.
