While petrol got costlier by Rs 0.08, for diesel you have to shell out 19 paisa more in Delhi. Today, you have to pay Rs. 70.55/litre for petrol and Rs. 64.97/litre for diesel in the national capital. In Mumbai, petrol and diesel prices are at Rs. 76.18/litre (increase by Rs. 0.07) & Rs. 68.02/litre (increase by Rs. 0.20), respectively.
Petrol prices almost touched the Rs 90 mark last year. However, fuel prices started decreasing post October 18. Rates had cooled to a year's low of Rs 68.29 for petrol and Rs 62.16 in case of diesel after a series of price cuts.
However, there has been an upward trend January 7.
The rise in prices comes amidst the revision of global crude oil prices owing to a possible stifling of supply in the near future. Crude oil prices inched higher on Friday after a report from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries showed its production fell sharply last month, easing fears about prolonged oversupply.
A further dip in rupee's value and a cut in oil producing countries are expected to push up the retail fuel prices in India later this year.
