LUCKNOW: There will be a brief respite from cold after the minimum temperature dropped below normal on Thursday, with the weatherman predicting a gradual rise in mercury up to 4 degrees Celsius till Monday, followed by cloudy sky and thunderstorm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Clear skies led to a drop in mercury level in night and the minimum temperature dipping to 6.6 degree Celsius, a degree below normal. There was moderate to dense fog in parts of the city on Thursday morning. However, the fog cleared by 10am as bright sunshine turned the day warm and comfortable. The maximum temperature in city was 22.9 degree Celsius, a degree above normal.
State Met officials said that similar weather conditions are expected on Friday. Sky would be clear with maximum and minimum temperatures staying around 24 and 7 degree Celsius, respectively and moderate fog in the morning. However, temperatures will rise gradually on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
State Met director J P Gupta said that a strong western disturbance is likely to hit the Himalayas on Friday which will cause heavy snowfall and rains in the hills for next four days. However, the WD will cut off the cold air flowing from mountains to plains, leading to gradual rise in temperatures in the city till Monday. The same WD is expected to move further and cause rains and thunderstorms in the northern plains from Monday till Wednesday.
