Britain must go back to Brussels to renegotiate a Brexit divorce deal, former British foreign secretary Boris Johnson told factory workers on Friday (January 18).

Britain is due to leave the EU at midnight of March 29th, but the British parliament has overwhelmingly rejected a withdrawal agreement Prime Minister Theresa May negotiated with the EU.

Expectations are rising that London will need to ask for more time to agree its own position on the terms of its exit.

Johnson, who opposed May's proposed deal, said extending Article 50 notice to leave the bloc would be to "erode trust in politics".

Speaking in central England, Johnson said it would also be "preposterous" to spend more on choosing the country's representative to the next European Parliament "simply because we haven't got on with leaving the EU".

The first sitting of the new assembly is due on July 2.
