BJP worker held in Mumbai after seizure of weapons from his shop

The Thane Police Crime Branch have arrested a BJP worker after a cache of weapons was found in his shop in Dombivli on January 15.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Dhanajay Kulkarni, 49, a resident of Dombivli (East). The police said that the accused was arrested after the Kalyan unit of the Thane Crime Branch received a tip off that he was storing as well as selling weapons in a garment store owned by him in the Arihant Building in Tilak Nagar.

“Acting on the tip off, a raid was conducted at the Tapasya House Of Fashion on Tuesday evening. A total of 170 weapons, including swords, daggers, switch blades, air guns and kukris (Nepali daggers with curved blades), collectively worth ₹1.86 lakh, were seized from the shop,” Thane Police spokesperson Inspector Sukhada Narkar said.

Mr. Kulkarni was subsequently placed under arrest and charged under the Arms Act. Inquiry is now under way to find out where he procured the arsenal from and how long he was selling the weapons, the officer said.
