TRS misusing provisions of anti-defection law: CPI

The Communist Party of India has charged the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi with misusing the provisions of the anti-defection law for its political gains.

CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said three TRS MLCs were disqualified within a month of receiving complaint of their switching loyalties to other parties. The same yardstick was not adopted when the opposition parties complained about the defection of 26 MLAs from different parties to the TRS during its first term.

“The Speaker did not even examine the complaints lodged against defection of MLAs from other parties to TRS in five years. The Speaker and the ruling party are ridiculing the democracy by interpreting the anti-defection law to suit their convenience,” he said. The TRS continued encouraging defections in the second term too with allowing merger of Congress Legislature Party in the Legislative Council.
