An inquiry committee of the Cochin University of Science and Technology will submit a report within a week on the action to be taken against 18 students against whom the Kalamassery police have registered a case of attempt to murder following a clash that broke out between two groups on the campus here on Monday night.
A meeting of senior university officials on Wednesday discussed the clash that erupted following an alleged attack on a law student. The police have also slapped cases against 40 others on the charge of attempting to carry out retaliatory attacks. The committee will also submit its recommendation on the disciplinary action to be taken against these students.
The authorities said that the clash was a sequel to the tension that prevailed on the campus between two groups after the conduct of a management programme. Students staying in two hostels on the campus were involved in the clash. A few from outside the campus were also part of the incident, according to officials.
