For 2nd year, IIM-N secures 100% placement for summer internship

IIM-N building at VNITNagpur: For the second year in a row, IIM-Nagpur has successfully placed all its students in summer placements. All 110 students were placed in 40 companies by the second week of this month. The highest package offered is Rs2.50 lakh by a renowned international realty firm, while the average stipend is Rs54,751.
The average and the median stipend for top quartile were Rs1.13 lakh and Rs1.10 lakh respectively. Last year, the highest stipend on offer was Rs1.8 lakh and the average was Rs60,176.
The 2018-20 batch is the fourth of the flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management, where the premier institution doubled its intake capacity from 60 to 120 from 2018-20 academic session after getting an overwhelming response. However, only 110 students managed to make the cut-off and ten seats are still vacant, said IIM-N officials.
The B-school, mentored by IIM Ahmedabad, plans to shift to its Mihan campus by next year, and the ground breaking ceremony for its new complex is expected to be performed shortly.
As per a communique by IIM-N, recruiters from various sectors like FMCG, consumer durables, oil and gas, e-commerce, fintech, aerospace and aviation, consulting, BFSI, logistics, media and broadcasting, and real estate participated in the process. This year also witnessed participation from many first time recruiters making double digit offers to students.
FMCG and consumer goods emerged as the most sought-after sectors followed by fintech and e-commerce, with over 40% of the batch opting for summer internship in these fields. The placements witnessed participation from information technology and government sectors too, with more than 17% of the batch opting for profiles in these sectors. Marketing and operations were the most sought-after profiles by the students. Several roles were also offered in strategy, finance, and analytics.
IIM-N introduced entrepreneurship specialization in their postgraduate programme. As a part of this initiative, the institute is supporting one of its students to work with a start-up in lieu of summer internship.
“We’re a small and new institute, but our faculty has excellent research and teaching track records. Our students are bright and vibrant. The completion of summer internship process this early is a clear vindication of the recruiters’ judgment of our institute’s quality. We’re confident in our pursuit of staying relevant to the industry, and seek the continued support of industry,” director LS Murty said.
