KOLKATA: The narcotics cell of Kolkata Police arrested three young men — all from affluent families of Swinhoe Street and Jodhpur Garden — late on Monday for allegedly possessing LSD in its liquid and sugar cube forms. The police said this was the first time they nabbed suppliers with LSD cubes.

The net worth of the total haul is estimated to be around Rs 4 lakh. The recoveries include 5g of liquid LSD, two LSD cubes of 10g and around 83g hashish.

Cops said the three accused have been identified as Srijit Banerjee (23), Aritra Das (22) and Sambhu Mukherjee (25). The cops said that Srijit is studying hotel management from a top college in Delhi, Aritra is a fourth-year architectural engineering student at a college in Howrah. Sambhu recently passed his LLB from Kolkata and now runs a guest house in Himachal Pradesh.

“The accused had formed a close-knit group that would procure and sell LSD amongst themselves. It is in this respect that we are searching for one Aishik Das,” said an officer. Police sources said Aritra and Srijit were arrested from R K Chatterjee Street in Kasba. Sambhu was picked up from his residence after questioning the duo.

Narcotic officers said the LSD cubes are difficult to store and consumed within “closed groups,” making it difficult to detect.
