EDM making a comeback

PANAJI: Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar on Wednesday said the government will soon grant in-principle approval to ‘Sunburn Classic’ to hold an electronic dance music festival in Goa in February.

Sunburn Classic is a franchise of Sunburn-Percept Group, and is currently promoted by Goa-based entrepreneur Shailesh Shetty.

Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’, Azgaonkar said, “Everybody wants EDMs back in Goa. We have taken a decision to give in-principle approval to Sunburn Classic to host the festival. However, final approval will be given only when the promoter fulfills the criteria laid down by the government.”

He said that state-level permission committee will be the authority to grant final approval to the festival. “The EDM will be on a small scale with the capacity for only three-six thousand people, and if things work out well then we will increase the capacity,” Shetty said, adding that the EDM has been planned at Vagator on February 23 and 24.
