Varanasi: Youth killed grandfather for New Year party

VARANASI: Varanasi police on Tuesday claimed to have worked out the murder of retired pharmacist Premchand by arresting his grandson along with his two aides. They had allegedly killed Premchand to loot cash for celebrating New Year.


SSP Anand Kulkarni said acting on a tip-off, teams of Lohta and Shivpur police arrested the trio near Basani crossing where they were awaiting a bus to escape. They were identified as Sujit alias Golu, Bablu Bari and Arun Gaud.


Apart from driving licence, Aadhaar and ATM cards of Premchand, some cash and gold ornaments were also recovered from them. Later, cops also recovered the iron rod used in the murder.


During interrogation, Sujit divulged that he and his friends had become liquor addict and to meet the expenses, they used to steal cash and other articles from their houses and other places. They had no money to celebrate the New Year, Sujit divulged.
