To break into the government vault containing the financial secrets of America’s largest corporations, the hackers decided to pose as a company.

Using that and an array of other routine tactics, a Ukrainian named Oleksandr Ieremenko and an associate spent six months, unnoticed, rooting around the corporate-filing system of the Securities and Exchange Commission looking for information to trade on, including unpublished earnings results, according to a government complaint filed Tuesday.
