CHENNAI: On the eve of former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran’s birth anniversary, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam on Wednesday exhorted the partymen to strive unitedly for the party’s victory “in whatever election, whenever held” and prove that the supporters of MGR and Jayalalithaa were ever victorious.
The party is staring at byelections and general elections in the absence of charismatic leader like Jayalalithaa besides the split and compromise of factions.
“Let us take a take a pledge on the birthday of Puratchi Thalaivar and accomplish,” the leaders said, in an epistle to the cadre.
Seeking to remind that the Lok Sabha polls were coming closer, the coordinator and joint coordinator said the AIADMK founded by MGR had to prove that it was the only party working for the welfare of public.
The AIADMK is still not firming up its alliance even as speculations are rife over the possible tie-up with the BJP. “We have to prove the world that none could win over us, even after our leaders, MGR and Amma, passed away. We have to realise that the AIADMK will rule forever,” they said, recalling the famous slogan of Jayalalithaa that even after her death, the party would rule for a century. The rivals feared of the party’s unity and releasing defamatory reports with an evil thought to defame it, they said.
