24-year-old alleges gang rape by three in SUV near mall in Anand Vihar

Representative imageNEW DELHI: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men inside a Toyota Fortuner near a mall in Anand Vihar on Tuesday night. Police said one of the accused men was arrested, and the car was also seized. The other two accused have been detained and their role is being ascertained.
In her complaint, the woman told the police that she knew one of the accused, Amit, for a few months. He had called her to the mall, offering to get her easy housing loans. The woman went there with a friend to meet him. However, her friend left after a while for some work.
The woman said that after some time, Amit asked her to accompany him to his car to discuss the matter. On reaching the car, she asked Amit for some water and he gave her a bottle. However, after drinking from it, she started feeling dizzy.
Soon, two other men — whom the woman identified as Dhanpal and Dharmesh — boarded the car as well. They drove around Anand Vihar for some time, after which they parked the car near the mall again. The men then raped her in turns, and threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm.
The woman managed to free herself and climbed out of the car, even as the men tried to grab and tore her clothes. However, she managed to escape, called the PCR from the scene and informed them about the rape. Police said that the men were caught from the spot and detained.
The woman was sent for a medical examination, after which doctors confirmed the rape. “We have registered a case of gang rape and poisoning. The car in which the rape happened had black tinted windows, which has also been seized,” said Meghna Yadav, DCP, Shahdara.
Police said that Amit owns a property business in east Delhi while the other two accused are his associates. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to establish the sequence of events.
