GURUGRAM: DCP (headquarters) Kulwinder Singh was promoted as DIG and appointed as joint police commissioner, Gurgaon, on Tuesday. The city has not had a joint police commissioner for more than a year now.

Singh has served in Gurgaon as ACP and DCP in the past. In August 2018, he won a gold medal in golf at the world police and fire services games held in the USA. He has been playing golf for the past 14 years. “I am committed to fulfilling the responsibilities given to me,” said the newly-appointed JCP.

According to a transfers list released by the home department of Haryana government, the promotion of DCP (headquarters) was part of a major state-wide reshuffle, involving 13 IPS officers. Besides Singh, 2015-batch IPS officer Narender Bijarniya, the cop known for his involvement in the killing of notorious gangster Anandpal Singh in Rajasthan, has taken over as DCP (crime) in Gurgaon while IPS Yogender Nehra, IG, recruitment training centre, Bhondsi, has got the additional charge of IG, STF, Gurgaon.

On Tuesday, Bijarniya said that curtailing gangster activities would be his top priority. “We will be working towards diminishing gang activities in the city. I shall join on Monday and take things ahead as per directions of the police commissioner,” he said.

Before the transfer, Bijarniya was serving as ASP, Gohana, Sonepat. After doing an engineering course from the National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, Bijarniya trained to be an IPS officer. On his last day of training in Sirsa district, he got information about Anandpal Singh and played an important role in the Rajasthan police’s operation against the gangster.

Yogender Nehra is also an experienced IPS officer and has earlier served in Gurgaon as SP.
