It wants organisers to seek NOC before hosting

Bengaluru Raptors may have clinched the Premier Badminton League (PBL) title, but the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is only worried about the waste that was generated at the event held at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium recently.

The BBMP is now all set to write to the Department of Youth and Sports, which manages Kanteerava and other sports facilities, to seek a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the civic body before giving permission to organise such events.

The PBL’s season four began on December 22, 2018 and was held at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium from January 7 to 13.

At the end of the weeklong event, all that was left was mounds of garbage, comprising banned plastic items and single use, disposable water bottles.

Much to the chagrin of the green volunteers, the plastic ban was ignored and spectators were even asked to buy bottled water.

Spectators were not allowed to carry their own reusable water bottles to the venue.

Amidst claims from waste volunteers that there was very little by way of waste management, BBMP’s Special Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) D. Randeep told The Hindu that the civic body already has in place a draft of guidelines to be followed by event organisers.

“The draft will be finalised and will be issued by the end of this month,” he said.
