Young Aussie Aiava falls to American Keys

M Keys d. D Aiava 6-2, 6-2

The dream run for Australians in the women's draw ended on Tuesday, with Destanee Aiava going down in straight sets to American Madison Keys.

The Melbourne-born, Sydney-based Aiava was beaten in just over an hour by 17th seed Keys, a former US Open finalist.

Aiava, 18, was granted a wildcard entry by tournament organisers on the back of her strong 2018 form.

Fellow Australians Daria Gavrilova, Sam Stosur and Alja Tomljanovic are all in action on Tuesday.

On Monday Australians Kimberly Birrell, Zoe Hives, Astra Sharma and highly-fancied Ash Barty all advanced to the second round.
