VARANASI: A mini replica of the tent city of Gujarat’s famous Rann Utsav is coming up fast for the non-resident Indians (NRIs), who will visit Varanasi to attend the three-day 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) convention beginning January 21.
Set in the rural backdrop at Aidhey village, the under-construction tent city is an amalgamation of a temporary human settlement equipped with all possible modern amenities.
A cluster of 620 wodden floor cottages in three categories will accommodate 1,480 guests, said officials. The double-bedded tents have facilities like attached bathroom, warm water supply, front porch, complete wooden flooring. The porch with hanging lanterns fitted with LED bulbs gives a rural look, while the beds and modern bathroom fittings make it a comfortable accommodation. Paraphernalia like armchairs, sofas and TVs provide extra comfort.
Besides, the entire tent city also exhibits tradition and culture of this millennia-old city through paintings and art work, the officials added. Divisional commissioner Deepak Agwaral and district magistrate Surendra Singh along with other officials inspected the site on Monday.
“The work is in full swing as guests will start arriving by January 20. It will definitely give a feel of Rann Utsav’s tent city,” the DM said adding that all efforts were being made to provide care and comfort to guests.
