GURUGRAM: Getting traffic updates while travelling in the city will not be a Herculean task any more, as the traffic department of Gurugram police launched its own Twitter handle (@TrafficGGM) on Monday.
According to traffic department officials, a technical team has been asked to upload screenshots of congested spots and update about the cause of the congestion.
The first tweet from the handle informed commuters about the congestion at Jharsa Chowk on NH-8 (Jaipur to Delhi-side carriageway) and mentioned the cause to be a car’s breakdown on the stretch. Once the congestion was cleared, a second tweet was sent from the handle. By Mon-day evening, there were 43 tweets made from the handle that already has 364 followers.
When asked about the need to create a twitter handle, a traffic police officer said, “Though commuters get traffic related updates on Google Maps, we decided to upload real-time pictures and inform them about the congestion and its cause.”
“People can also post their suggestions, feedback and information about a congestion along with a picture and our team will get on the job to resolve it. This will help us ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city,” said police commissioner KK Rao.
Along with the traffic alerts, the handle will also inform commuters about route diversion and traffic related changes.
