13-horse field confirmed for 2019 Sun Met

2019-01-15 09:14

Cape Town - Only 13 runners will line up in the R5 million Grade 1 Sun Met at Kenilworth Racecourse over 2 000m on Saturday, January 26.

The race, the ninth on the day, will get under way at 17:10.

The final declarations were made on Monday and the card will be finalised once the barrier draws are made at a function at Grand West Casino on Wednesday.

According to the Sporting Post website, SA champion trainer Justin Snaith has the strongest hand numerically with 4 of the 13 runners.

It is noticeable that, while the Met field is slightly disappointing in pure numbers, the balance of the card boasts sizable fields.

The day's 12-race card has attracted a total of 195 runners with five races on the day supported by reserve runners.

The first race starts at 11:50 with the final event off at 19:00.

The two Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS) races to be run for a stakes of R5 million apiece over 1 200m and 1 600m on the day have attracted quality fields.

These are restricted to eligible graduates of the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale held on January 21 and 22, 2017, 2017 CTS March Yearling Sale held on March 18 and 19, 2017 and the 2017 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale held on April, 21, 2017.
