Court cancels Kathiriya’s bail

Surat: Bail of Alpesh Kathiriya, Patidar Anamat Andolan Saimit convener, was cancelled by a judge of Surat district and sessions court here on Tuesday. Police had recently approached the court requesting cancellation of his bail in sedition case after repeated violation of law and conditions by him. Crime branch had approached the court on December 31, 2018. Kathiriya, who is out on bail in sedition cases registered against him in Ahmedabad and Surat, will be arrested soon.
Misuse of personal liberty was cited as major reason by the court for cancellation of Kathiriya’s bail. Police were keeping a close watch on Kathiriya, who was present in the court since morning. However, he left the court campus after judgment and disappeared. Four offences were registered against Kathiriya in Varachha and Sarthana police stations on December 28, 2018. Kathiriya hurled abuses and entered into scuffle with traffic cops over towing of vehicles parked in no-parking area at Baroda Prestige. He continued to abuse cops at Varachha police station where he was later taken.

Kathiriya was arrested by Ahmedabad police in sedition case in August and later by city police in November, 2018. He got bail in sedition case registered in Ahmedabad in November, 2018. In the beginning of December 2018, Kathiriya got bail in the sedition case registered at Amroli police station of the city in October 2015. He was booked along with Hardik Patel, Vipul Desai and Chirag Desai. They were booked after Hardik asked one his followers while visiting his house at Mota Varachha to ‘kill 2-4 cops’ on October 3, 2015.

“Police will arrest Kathiriya soon. He disappeared to delay his arrest. He should surrender. If he evades arrest, he is violating the law further,” city police commissioner Satish Sharma told TOI.
