So Antarctica is apparently losing six times more ice than in did 40 years ago.
????Scientists used photographs, satellite images and other data from between the years 1979 and 2017.????They published their discovery in the journal PNAS and found that the loss of ice resulted in over half an inch of sea level rise during that time span.
????Between 1979 and 1990, Antarctica lost 40 billion tons of ice mass annually, 252 billion tons between 2001 and 2017.
????Researchers say that glaciers in the East Antarctic are melting at an alarming rate.
????They also said that if the Antarctic ice sheet keeps melting at this rate, they expect to to see “multi-meter sea level rise” in the coming centuries.
????The issue comes from warm ocean water being pushed to regions in Antarctica which causes them to lose more ice than other parts.
