HYDERABAD: The Rohith Vemula Struggle and Solidarity Committee has given a call for Chalo HCU (Hyderabad Central University) on January 17 in view of Rohith Vemula's third death anniversary.

The Chalo HCU call was given during a roundtable conference organised by the committee in the city on Monday. The Chalo HCU call has also been given against removal of Velivada at the north shopping complex, where Vemula spent his last days before committing suicide at the university in 2016 triggering nationwide protests.

During the roundtable, Dontha Prashanth, one of the five students who was suspended by the vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile in 2015 said that there is undeclared emergency in the campus with continuous harassment against Dalit students who are fighting for justice for Rohith Vemula.

Members of several student and social organisations such as Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika, Kula Nirmulana Porata Samithi, Ambedkar Students Association, Dalit Sena among others will be joining the Chalo HCU movement.

The Rohith Vemula Struggle and Solidarity Committee has demanded that the Podile should be arrested under the SC/ST Atrocities Act for destroying the portraits of Dr BR Ambedkar and other Dalit leaders and be removed from the vice-chancellor's post.
